Happy New Year - Make it YOUR year to get Wired at ONE!

Submitted by Laurel on Mon, 01/02/2012 - 8:07am

The years are coming and going, but what can you do to make THIS year the best year of your life?

Commit to being wired at ONE, with an abundance of life's richest rewards: sanctuary, authenticity, vibrancy, integrity, intimacy, spirituality and most of all, freedom.

You join a group, have your own small tribe, and move through the kits, one by one, moving up your brain's set point and creating more joy in your life.

Other people notice, but can't put their finger on what has changed about you. You feel so SAFE to be with. You exude authenticity, and vibrancy, too. People trust you because they sense that your integrity is brain based. They feel your love, too and your love nourishes their spirit. The pill bottles in your bathroom . . .well, there are fewer of them, and you have a new sense of joy and freedom in your life.

That brain state of ONE is natural, something we can all experience, and more and more, make it our acquired set point. That's the power of emotional brain plasticity, that we now have the power, step by step, to truly transform our lives.

If you say to yourself, "What's the most important accomplishment I could have in 2012?" What compares to being wired for joy?

 In JOY, Laurel

I came across this article as I continued my research about the brain, food and addiction.  And I felt like I had hit a jackpot!!  This is one of the most clear articles I have ever read and it fits perfectly with everything we say about EBT and food.  I just had to share it with all of you. Adrift in the Limbic Triangle -- Why the Obesity Epidemic is Caused by STRESS!!

Submitted by Laurel on Sun, 08/21/2011 - 10:25pm

Numbers are being released soon that show the obesity epidemic is still out of control, the prevalence of obesity rising.
A few years ago Rob Lustig and Michele Mietus-Snyder, two UCSF colleagues wrote a stunning article on the cause of obesity, three brain structures in the emotional brain that are highly impacted by stress. A quick read of the article

Emotional Eating – We all do it

Submitted by Lindsey Fish on Wed, 08/10/2011 - 6:35pm

I am really enjoying learning more about the connection between food and our brain.  I hope that the articles and studies that I am finding are helpful to all of you.  I have discovered that the more I understand about my brain and my body, the more compassionate and patient I am with myself.  Remember…it is not you, it is just a circuit. Getting Hooked on Salad

Submitted by Lindsey Fish on Fri, 08/05/2011 - 8:01am

My last two postings have been about food addiction and how the brain is wired can cause food addiction.  In addition, we know that from an evolutionary standpoint, the brain is constantly seeking out foods that are high in calories and therefore high in fat and sugar.  As a species, there wasn’t always a supermarket or restaurant just down the road…we used to have to go hunting in the forest to find and catch our dinner. Food Addiction and Stress Overeating

Submitted by Lindsey Fish on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 5:48pm

I have spent the week thinking about food addiction after my posting last week.  Last week, I wrote about how the brain reacts to food in ways similar to how it reacts to drugs of abuse.  This week, I would like to continue on that same theme. Read more »

Food Addiction – It Really is an Addiction

Submitted by Lindsey Fish on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 6:38pm

I went to visit friends this weekend.  We ate out in a restaurant for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, Saturday lunch and Sunday brunch.  It was excellent and I very much enjoyed it.  However, I definitely ate way too much.  It got me thinking about food and the obesity epidemic…and of course, our brains. Feelings Surrounding Death

Submitted by Lindsey Fish on Sat, 07/16/2011 - 8:40am

To all of my faithful blog readers, I apologize for my absence over the last several weeks.  Unfortunately, there was an illness and death in my family and my priorities and had to change to meet the increasing stress that a death brings.  However, life has settled back into its more normal pace now and I hope to be writing more frequently again. Creating A Compassionate Brain State: Light & Dark Sides

Submitted by Laurel on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 8:59am

Odd how knowing about brain states seems to manufacture kindness.

Her sister had visited her after surgery, stayed for 10 days, and was waited on hand and foot. Then without a thank you, she went home, turned off her phone and wouldn't even speak to her. "How do I deal with THAT?" she said.

I thought about it, given that I haven't had a lot of house guests and the ones I do come and go as they please and make themselves happy. My response: It's just about brain states. A person comes in a whole package: light side (all the good stuff) and dark side (the rest of it). Bring to mind your sister's light side.

She said, "I can't think of anything right now."

I waited. It's odd how every person on earth in Brain State 1 is lovable and how the cascade of stress hormones that ushers in the Brain State 5 makes us all rather hard to take!

She said, "OK, she's strong willed and the dark side of that is that she is demanding and selfish . . . at times."

I said, "Who isn't selfish and demanding when they are at Brain State 5?"

She smiled and said, "I think I'll call my sister. . . ."
