Retiring the Line . . .
Retiring the Line . . .
We have had a lot of input from EBT providers who are responding to the changes in the method directed at bringing it in line with neuroscience. Yesterday, I received a message from one long-term provider, Sue, who wrote who was very enthusiastic about the changes but said . . .
"My feelings about losing The Line? Curiously, I am not having much of a reaction - just surprise and acceptance.I find I want to make jokes about it - like saying "I am above the you-know-what". Also, I hope you retire it with respect and dignity - like an athlete's number being retired and enshrined. Maybe there should be a retirement party for it....
It will be a focus of fond reminiscing among older providers ... "Remember The Line?" I'm also thinking of it - and all your changes - as a line of demarcation in the method, like BC and AD. As you said, it is a New Day.
Check in used to involve asking, "Am I above the line or below the line?" which meant in balance or in stress. We "lost" the line because there is no clear "line" in stress, as it is a continuous variable. The point of identifying one's number is to know what to expect, to see, hear and feel oneself, and, identify the mental process to switch the brain to a state of well-being.
Thank you, Sue
